Lending A Helping Hand
There are so many people in our country that are struggling right now and need our help. However, sometimes we wonder how we can change this, or how we can help. So, today I thought I would share with you some of the ways YOU can help! You can always volunteer at certain organizations around Memphis, such as the Soup Kitchen, the Dorothy Day House, etc. However, next weekend two events are taking place to help those in need. Next Saturday, September 23rd, St. Vincent de Paul Food Mission is holding a Walk for the Poor at CBHS. Registration for the walk starts at 9AM, and the walk will start at 10AM. You could also volunteer and earn some service hours-if you wanted to! Also, Holy Rosary is hosting a Feed the Need event for all the Hurricane Harvey victims. Feed the Need will take place at 9AM on Saturday, September 23, as well. These two events are great ways that you can give back to your country by helping the poor and those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in life that we forget about those who are suffering. As humans, we are constantly worrying about the needs of our friends, families, and ourselves that we forget about those who are in need the most. I read this quote not too long ago that says, "The things you take for granted someone else is praying for." Isn't that sad, if you think about it? We are so fortunate, and yet sometimes we take that for granted. We are so forgetful that there are people who have greater needs than ourselves. We should remember to be more humble for what we have and to feel more compelled to give. Acts 20:35 tells us, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." There is a certain special feeling that one gets when they give to those in need. When you give your time and love to those who are unfortunate, God applauds you for that. Your thoughtfulness and love will not go unnoticed. So, be willing to go and be a light to those who need it most! Your love and support to those who are struggling will most likely brighten their entire day. Jesus tells us that the greatest thing we can do for anyone is to love them.
Have a lovely week!
Love always,
Gracie
