We're Experiencing Something Special

Over the weekend it came to my attention just how lucky we are that we get to go to a school where we can talk about Jesus, have a Theology class, pray, go to Mass, and worship. I have always known how special it is that I get to go to a christian school where I can learn more about my faith and pray; however I have thought very little about the people who do not have this opportunity. I have definitely thought about how different it must be, how I wish everyone could experience what I am experiencing, and how hard it must be to not be able to mention Christ's name in school. However, I never thought about the ways it must affect people. I was with my mom yesterday while she was talking to one of her friends who recently put her daughter in a public school. This family had been at Holy Rosary when I was at school there, but they decided to start homeschooling when their children reached the third and sixth grades. We were asking her how the transition has been from homeschooling to public schooling, and she said it has been wonderful and very good for her daughter. However, there was one thing that she said has made it less wonderful, "The fact that there is no talk about Jesus whatsoever." She said she believes that being able to talk about faith and Jesus were some of the most important things to her, and those were the things she loved about being able to send her children to a christian school and homeschooling them. Once I heard her say this, it hit me. I became more aware of the ways that people are impacted by their faiths, and that not getting to talk about Jesus at school can be difficult for both the children and their parents.

It makes me super sad to know that not everyone can go to a christian school where they can discuss their faith and Jesus. I hope that you too can become aware of just how lucky you are. It is so easy for us as teenagers and juniors in high school to forget about the people that do not get to experience what we are getting to experience because going to a christian school is all that we are accustomed to. You might be thinking, "Well, there is nothing I can do to change this." Well, sadly, you're right. There is nothing we can physically do to change this. However, we can simply pray. People always say prayer is the answer to everything, and in this case that is so true. We can pray that these kids and teenagers who are unable to share their faith with one another at school can find time and a place in their lives for Christ. We can pray that they are able to make Christ their center focus and what makes them truly happy. We can pray that they are constantly reminded of who they are: they are His! So, today thank God for the opportunity that you are experiencing at school. Thank Him for making it possible for your family, and pray that he can make it possible for more families in this world!

Have a great week!

Lots of love always,
Gracie
