It's Not Just Good News but the Best News Ever
I just love Easter.
There is so much to love about this season, and all the new life that flourishes in front of our eyes. But the main reason I love Easter and this time of year so much is because of all the good news that we are being reminded of. We are reminded to celebrate the good news that came through Jesus' crucifixion, death, and resurrection, and we are encouraged to rejoice in the fact that we are no longer bound by sin because by Christ's pain we are healed. And we have the opportunity to live forever because of Jesus' great love for us. It was that intense and overwhelming love that he feels for us that put him on that cross so many years ago. He loves us so much that he was willing to suffer and die, so that we might live. And I don't know about you, but I find that extremely beautiful and so worth celebrating over and over again. Because in my humble opinion, it's not just good news but the best news ever!
I think what makes Christ's resurrection not just good news but the best news ever is the fact that the war has already been won. Christ has already fought the battle. He accomplished it all on that cross. He conquered death, and because of that we have the chance to live again! You see, nothing we ever endure or experience could live up to or even begin to be compared to what Christ endured FOR US. Therefore the battles we endure, no matter the outcome, have already been fought and won because of the greatest act of love that took place thousands of years ago.
One thing that I always try and tell myself when I am feeling super down about something or when I feel weak is this: "Remember it is over and done because Christ has already won." I tell myself this as a reminder to press on from any and every down-in-the-gutter-day or terrible circumstance I face because there is no need to stay stuck in the muck of hurt when Christ has already paid it all! He died for the atonement of your sins and he looked death in the face and conquered it so that you have the opportunity to live in a place free from sin and devastation. You see, what happens here on earth is incomparable to the life you are offered in heaven! Jesus makes this possible for us because he loves us that much!
So, if you remember anything from this post I want it to be this: you are loved! You cannot tell yourself any different because if you weren't loved then Jesus would have never suffered the painful death he did. Just look at the wounds on his hands, on his side, and on his feet. They are concrete examples of what love looks like, and they are firm visible marks of who you are: loved. You see, Jesus paid it ALL...just for YOU! He loves you so big that he was willing to endure pain so that you might be healed. He wants you to have everlasting life with him! Your sins have the opportunity to be vanquished and you have the opportunity to live a life of abundant beauty in heaven--how great and beautiful is that!?!?
So next time, you feel inadequate, unworthy, weak, or unloved I want you to remember that it is over and done because Christ has already won. The fight has already been defeated. Your battles are conquered. You are healed. You are set free. You are loved. All because of what Jesus did and who he is. And that, my friends, is not just good news but the best news ever!
"What if I were the one to tell you
That the fight's already been won
Well, I think your day's about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work's already been done
It's not good news
It's the best news ever"
Well, I think your day's about to get better
What if I were the one to tell you
That the work's already been done
It's not good news
It's the best news ever"
